"We Always Disguise As Okada Riders To Rob Passengers" - Robbery Suspects

Three robbery suspects, who have been terrorizing the Dopemu area of Lagos state, were arrested yesterday, 16th of January, 2017, by the Lagos state Police Command.

While on patrol, the Command operatives attached to Dopemu division sighted the hoodlums attacking a victim, identified as Emmanuel, at gun point. As soon as the suspects, who disguised as “Okada” riders, sighted the police, they ran.The patrol team gave them a hot, and one of the suspects,  Ismail Owolabi of No 13 Alfa Nla road was apprehended. The victim’s ATM card and phone was recovered. A double barrel pistol was also recovered from him.


Ismail was left with no choice but to lead the detectives to their hideout where two more suspects were arrested. They all confessed to be a 4-man-gang guilty of terrorizing Dopemu area of Lagos. They also stated that their trick was to disguise as commercial motorcycle (Okada) riders and that when an intending passenger approaches them, they rob him or her.

The police also recovered one of the Bajaj motorcycles that was used by the criminals. The police are still on the lookout for the 4th gang member who is still at large. The 3 suspects Ismail Owolabi, Toyese Akinbayo and Tolulope Akinbayo have been transferred to (SARS) special Anti Robbery Squad for discreet investigation.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, advised members of the public to be vigilant whenever they want to board Okada, since investigation has revealed that most motorcycles are used for nefarious activities.
