The Adamawa state Government has constituted a six-man investigative panel to probe the alleged illegal removal of a patient’s kidney by a physician in a private clinic in Yola.
Abubakar Muhammad, the Information Officer of the State’s Ministry of Health, revealed this to newsmen on Sunday in Yola. He also revealed that a doctor identified as Dr. Hassan Yakubu of Jimeta Clinic was alleged to have conducted a surgery on the said patient.
Muhammad stated that Dr. Fatima Atiku,the state Commissioner for Health, on receipt of the complaint from the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe, where the patient was referred to, did not hesitate to take actions.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the patient, Isah Hamma, who is presently in a very critical condition at the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, alleged that his kidney was removed by Dr. Yakubu at Jimeta Clinic.
Umaru Hammaseyo, speaking for Hamma, said the surgery which was for abdominal pain was carried out on the 8th of July, and he paid the sum of fifty thousand naira.
He said that after the operation, his condition kept deteriorating leading to his referral to the Federal Medical Centre in Gombe where it was discovered that his kidney had been removed.
Hamma called for justice and support from relevant authorities and the public to save him from the critical condition he found himself where forty-eight thousand naira is required weekly for dialysis.
The management of Jimeta Clinic is yet to react to the development, just as the nurses on duty said they were not competent to make any comment.
