Few weeks after the death of two prominent Yoruba actors, Olumide Bakare and Pastor Ajidara, another popular Yoruba Nollywood actress, Moji Olaiya has died of cardiac arrest in Canada.
Although her family is yet to issue an official statement, her colleagues have taken to social media to express their grief.
Two of her close friends, Saheed Balogun and Opeyemi Aiyeola have expressed shock and disbelief at the passing of the actress. Speaking to a correspondent of THENETNG on the phone, Saheed confirmed the story:
This is sad, really sad. Moji is dead. I just spoke to one of her people in Canada. The person was just crying and crying so it’s hard to get the exact details from her right now.
Opeyemi Aiyeola also expressed her shock at the grave news on her Instagram page saying:
Pls somebody wake me up and tell me it’s a joke! Pls tell me it’s April fools day! Pls tell me she’s still with us! Pls tell me HER LIGHT IS NOT OUT YET😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭@mojisolaabikeade .
Olaiya was raised by veteran jazz singer, Victor Olaiya. She was said to have adopted the name Olaiya to honour the musician who raised her since she was young.
A source close to the late actress confirmed to newsmen that Olaiya could not raise enough money for her treatment before she died.
