Cult Fight In Akure Leaves Three Dead, Police Arrest 20 Suspect

Three people have died after a clash between rival cults groups in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.

The fight which reportedly commenced on Friday in the city, spread to neighbouring communities, as fleeing and attacking cultists sought new battle grounds.

The state police command in a swift response has confirmed the arrest of 20 members of different cult groups in the state.

Spokesperson of the Ondo state police command, Femi Joseph said some of the suspects arrested were ex-convicts involved in some murder cases in the state.

Some of them are helping us in the investigations so far and we are doing our best to ensure that there is no further breach of the peace.”

Femi Joseph also said the deceased are members of the warring cults.

In the last 72 hours our men have been parading the nooks and crannies of the state to make sure no one creates any further problem and we have assured the people to go about their lawful businesses,” the police spokesperson added.
