Chaos In Taraba State As Angry Youths Lynch 4 Kidnap Suspects In Police Custody

Taraba State

Angry youths in Taraba State stormed a police station in Tela town, Gasol Local Government Area, seized four suspected kidnappers, lynched them and dumped their bodies in a river.

This comes days after the gruesome murder of two kidnap suspects in Obadeyi, Ojokoro Lagos after a kidnappers den was found.

According to Vanguard,  trouble began when a vigilante group nabbed four persons with knives, machetes and charms in a village close to Tela town through a tip-off from the villagers.

Angry youths demanded the suspects be handed over to them, prompting the Chairman of Gasol Council, Prince Yahuza Yaya’u, to bring in the police in the area.

“The DPO actually went to the vigilante group office to pick the suspected kidnappers and they were taken to Tela Police Station,” he said.

“The youths mobilised in large numbers and forced their way into the Police Station and took away the suspects. One of the suspects escaped from the youths and was on his way to Jalingo. But we had information that they were going to Jalingo to have him arrested. So we alerted the Army at the Mutu-Biu Checkpoint.

“The man was arrested there and taken to the state CIID in Jalingo; he is currently under detention at the Police Headquarters in Jalingo.

Spokesman for the State Police Public Command, Mr David Mishar, confirmed that one suspected kidnapper was detained at the Police Headquarters in Jalingo, but didn’t say if anything is being done about the mob that took it upon themselves to kill suspects.

But the helplessness of the police in the face of the angry mob already speaks volumes.
